FFF celebrates anniversary
It's hard to believe that 15 years have passed since the Freeride Film Festival was launched in Vienna. In 2024, a small anniversary will be celebrated and the 15th edition will be launched under the motto "The Art of Re:Connection". The spectrum ranges from flow experiences in nature and active environmental protection to the humorous relationship between a skier and a snowboarder and the exploration of other cultures and their perspectives on the mountains. All of this is garnished with big mountain action at the very highest level, individual excellence in the backcountry and the most extraordinary lines.
Film selection
StasisSvea Irving's life is turbulent: a bachelor's degree, plus halfpipe skiing pro in the World Cup and at the X Games, with the 2026 Olympic Games as her goal. But she also likes to hang out in the backcountry. One element connects all of these things, and that is nature. "With this film, we want to show that in all the chaos of the different elements of their lives, there is a beauty that comes together at that point of stasis - that moment of absolute stillness," explains director Griffin Glendinning. Their faces are coloured bright red. Anger, conflict and aggression are in the air. In a panic, they discover that they are suffering from "red face syndrome". The only cure is to ride the most brutal and tightest lines in the Dolomites. Entertaining, shocking entertainment, brilliantly presented by mastermind Marco Tribelhorn. Incidentally, the idea for the film was born on the FFF 2023 tour bus.
SaririWhat drives people to go to the mountains? Five protagonists from Switzerland, Austria, Bolivia and Peru push themselves to their limits as they conquer various 6,000 metre-high cliffs in the Andes on skis. With the first ascent of the 6,074 metre high "Chachacomani" in Bolivia, the mountaineers also take risks. A wonderful film with a gentle pace, magnificent images, strong portraits and plenty brainfood. Directed by Paul Schweller, who at the age of 23 already has the award-winning film "metanoia" to his name.
SCUrrari Freeride World Tour snowboarder Timm Schröder (a.k.a Timmy Shredder) and ski pro Dino Flatz show with a twinkle in their eyes why it's much more fun to be out and about in the mountains in pairs, despite the different equipment. The film whets the appetite for powder, fun and friendship. A real fun film on the Arlberg and in the Zillertal that doesn't take anything seriously - except the alpine dangers of freeriding. Plus a great hip-hop soundtrack with tracks specially produced for the film by rapper "Doomaniac".
Farming TurnsChris Rubens goes from freeride star to organic farmer. As a result, he is not only living more sustainably, but also strengthening his connection to the community and the mountains in his home town of Revelstoke, Canada. As a new father, he is constantly optimising his everyday life so that his son Huxley can grow up in the best possible world. The authentic narrative comes from multiple international award-winning adventure documentary filmmaker Anthony Bonello, whose productions have more than 20 million online views on various platforms such as Netflix.
