Many avalanche accidents could be avoided
Around 20 ski tourers die in avalanches every year. Even though not all avalanches are foreseeable and can happen without human error, the Alpine Association observes recurring accident patterns that could clearly be avoided.
Concentrated avalanche knowledge for winter sports enthusiasts
How do you prepare safely for ski tours and winter mountain adventures? In winter 2024/25, the Austrian Alpine Association is once again offering the "Avalanche Update" lecture series, where winter sports enthusiasts can refresh their knowledge of avalanche danger and emergency techniques.
In two and a half informative hours, avalanche expert Michael Larcher explains how risks can be minimised using current accident examples. The second part deals with practical tips on emergency equipment and efficient avalanche searches. An informative evening for anyone who wants to be safe in the mountains during the cold season.
Lectures throughout Austria and Germany
This year, the Austrian Alpine Club is once again offering 10 dates at different locations in Austria and two dates in Germany (Rosenheim & Oberstaufen). If you can't be there, you can also join in via the livestream on 12 December 2024 or watch the recording.
Here you can find more information about the event as well as a helpful download area that offers free "Stop-Or-Go" and "First Aid Cards", among other things.
