With WhiteRisk, the SLF has been offering an online platform for several years that primarily serves to prevent accidents and impart knowledge. For the 2015/16 season, there are some new features and expanded offers. The Explore part of the site is all about discovering avalanche knowledge interactively. The extensive range of information (different skill levels, many different topics) is now available in several languages. In the tour planning section Tour there are now options to better manage your own tours and share them with other users. In addition, the time calculation has been improved (individually customizable depending on how fast you are traveling). In the Pro category, there has always been support for creating presentations on the subject of avalanches, for example for teachers. The teaching templates have been added. Pro users can now also buy inexpensive school licenses.

Example from the Learn module on the subject of slope inclination

The Learn module is completely new. Here, SLF and Suva provide all snow sports enthusiasts with another tool with which they can acquire, practise and test their avalanche knowledge on specific topics. The user learns more about avalanche awareness step by step in lessons that build on each other. Each lesson has a learning objective. Playful exercises invite the user to practise and consolidate the learning content. At the end of a lesson, the knowledge learned can be checked with a test. In each lesson there are also many links to related topics in the Explore module.Learn can be tested free of charge in a one-off lesson and is otherwise part of the standard license, which is still available for CHF 29 / year. (The standard license provides access to the Learn, Explore and Tour modules). Maybe a nice Christmas present for one or two ski buddies, or you could just give yourself a present? The WhiteRisk app has also been expanded and now offers, among other things, a feedback form and better zoom options for the maps. The app is available in the iTunes AppStore and in the GooglePlay store for iOS and Android.
