What would the end of winter be without the Longboard Classic event in Stuben am Arlberg? And even if it was a bad winter, you can still give it a proper send-off - and the best way to do it is on 9 April 2011. No one does this traditional winter farewell better than the participants and organizers of the Longboard Classic, the self-proclaimed Woodstock of snowboarding.
Legendary freeride race, legendary parties
The 12th edition of the ultimate snowboard freeride cult and retro event will take place from April 8-11, 2011. The freeride race starts on Saturday, April 9. As the subsequent party on Saturday evening is usually just as "challenging" as the freeride mass start race from the Albona ridge down to Stuben, you shouldn't plan too much for Sunday.
This year, there is just enough snow to ski down to Stuben. The meagre snow depths and summer temperatures will not stand in the way of the event. More than 400 starters, many of them in 80s and 90s snowboard outfits, tackle the 1000-metre and one-metre descent. The parties and lifestyle are celebrated as a way of life like nowhere else at the Longboard Classics. The Longboard Classics are rightly one of the biggest snowboarding events far removed from the commercial hype. The motto is to go and take part.
