Low budget? No, no budget! There are plenty of film crews with big projects and manageable content in the YouTube age. However, few know how to inspire right from their debut like Dendrite Studios. The Best Big Mountain Movie award presented at the beginning of the season should be enough reason to pay attention to their first work.
The story of Out of the Shadows is quickly told: a couple of guys go skiing in their home country, film themselves, get together and produce their debut film. The result is interesting. The freeride action is consistently good-looking, the camera angles are innovative and the price concept is attractive - an HD download costs just 1.99 CAD. Those who want to are welcome to pay more on a donation basis.
Conclusion
In terms of editing, music and action, Out of the Shadows understandably falls short of the benchmarks set by MSO, TGR and co. But, and this is the amazing thing: the film far exceeds the expectations of a no-budget film for 1.99 CAD. The only criticism of this convincing overall concept is the lack of a background story. For example, the project itself could easily have been introduced. A point of criticism that will certainly be implemented in subsequent film projects, because there is one thing we wish for the "guys who film themselves skiing": a successful sequel after they have "stepped out of the shadows".
