The Alagna jacket from Mammut can do everything a really good jacket has to do!
* It keeps you warm when it's cold.
* It keeps you dry when it's wet.
* You don't sweat too much when it's warm.
* It's breathable when you're sweaty anyway.
* It's robust against wear and tear.
* It's pleasantly soft to wear.
* It can be stowed away compactly when you don't want to wear it?
It's simply my favorite jacket. And has been for many years! The Gore-Tex 3-layer softshell laminate may not be 100% soft, but the jacket is a fully-fledged, genuine freeride or big mountain jacket. I find the minimalist lining very pleasant, which simply makes the jacket much more comfortable to wear than conventional hard-shell jackets. Of course, the Alagna jacket also has the usual gadgets: Goggle cleaning cloth, waterproof zippers and much more. Whether you really need all that is rather irrelevant.
By the way: I still have my very first jacket from this series. It's been six years now and I only use it for working outside. Apart from the zipper, which is now a little chipped and no longer 100% waterproof, it's still great.
My only gripe with the jacket is the somewhat sluggish, waterproof zippers. Nevertheless: 97.5 out of a possible 100 points. I'll be wearing it again tomorrow!
