Quick and easy ski tour recipes

The harsh winter is over and unfortunately Ullr only half granted our wishes for snow. Someone didn't quite finish their soup. To make sure there's more snow next season, we've collected a few very good and quick recipe ideas for you, because a snack on the mountain is sometimes the most important thing, especially during spring ski tours. Don't forget: eat up please!

The 2022/23 ski and snowboard season is slowly but surely coming to an end.  For those who are still motivated, there are still a few hours of sunshine on the mountain to enjoy during spring ski tours.

The most important thing for a great spring ski tour? The sun of course, great company and a good snack. So that the latter doesn't always consist of muesli bars, we have two alternative suggestions for you. Perfect to take with you, for a cosy summit break in the sun and the preparation and cooking time takes no more than 20 minutes.

Porridge

  • 1 cup of rolled oats

  • 2 cups of water

  • 1 cup of milk (or plant-based milk alternative)

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup (optional)

  • 1 Pinch of cinnamon

  • 1 pinch of turmeric

  • Fruit (dried or fresh) and nuts for garnish

  • Peanut butter or almond butter

  • Flaxseed

  • Zucchini or carrots

Bring the oats, water and salt to boil in a pan and simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes thick and creamy. Grate the carrots or courgettes and mix in. Cut the fruit and nuts into small pieces and add with the milk, cinnamon and turmeric and simmer for a further 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and add honey or maple syrup to taste and refine with linseed. Garnish with fruit, nuts and peanut butter or almond butter for a balanced breakfast on the mountain. This recipe is particularly recommended for a sunrise tour.

If you're not the sweet tooth, a chickpea salad is a good alternative for a healthy and quick snack to take with you on a tour.

Chickpea salad

  • 1 or 2 cans/jars of chickpeas, drained and rinsed

  • Lettuce

  • 1 red onion, diced

  • 1 cucumber, diced

  • Tomatoes, diced

  • Olives

  • Feta, diced

  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice or balsamic vinegar

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Mix all the ingredients together and season with the dressing, garnish with parsley and pop into the snack box! One of the quickest, easiest and best recipes, perfect for investing more energy in tour planning.

In principle, you can go wild with both recipes. Simply mix all your favourite ingredients together and try out which combination works best for your mountain snack.
