With Scott athletes on the 12 highest mountains in Sweden

by PowderGuide 01/18/2022
Jackie Paaso, FWT veteran who now lives in Sweden, takes us on an unusual adventure in the Swedish wilderness in "Arctic 12". Together with Reine Barkered and other pros from the Scott team, she has set herself the goal of skiing up all 12 mountains in Sweden that are over 2000 meters high.

In 26 days, the team covered 415km and crossed the remote national parks of Sarek and Stora Sjöfallets. It wasn't just the cold, storms and snow that posed a challenge. Such an undertaking also takes its toll on the group dynamics. The film, which lasts over an hour, not only offers great landscape images from a region that tends to be overlooked by skiers, but also many insights into the team's everyday life. Paaso and Barkered are joined by another couple, Erin Smart and Benjamin Ribeyre. Both work as mountain guides in La Grave. Martin Olson was also there as a filmmaker and photographer.

Even the planning and packing phase is interesting to watch. If the basic rule is "no one carries or pulls more than their own body weight", the adventure is clearly pre-programmed. The cold, the difficult avalanche situation, considerable tension in the group and the pressure of having to make a movie out of it all add to the challenge. The trip was clearly not a leisurely stroll, but rather a "Type 2 Fun" undertaking. The summit moments and the final sense of achievement certainly make up for a lot and the snow even looks pretty good from time to time! Nevertheless, the team's conclusion at the end is very mixed. I wonder if this group will go skiing together again?

The film doesn't try to sugarcoat anything, but instead comes across as a fairly honest chronicle of a pretty remarkable crossing. Recommended for anyone with a yearning for adventure (or simply looking for an entertaining evening program):
