Video tip | [11] El Flamingo

A free and almost ad-free action film produced in-house

by Marius Schwager 03/16/2012
[11] - A non-commercial action sports film follows 11 athletes through the year 2011. The crossover film offers 60 minutes of freeski, mountain bike, skate, surf, kite and wakeboard action made in Germany. The El Flamingo crew traveled all over Europe for the production of [11]. The list of spots ranges from kitesurfing spots in Denmark to powder lines in the central Alps and the desert dust of Spain. The still very young El Flamingo film team spent over a year accompanying a wild bunch of very different young athletes who share the same attitude to life.

El Flamingo founder Philipp Becker on the freeski segment with Innsbruck local Jochen Mesle: "We started filming in January 2011. But as everyone should know, the snow conditions in the Central Alps were more than poor at the time. So we set off for Ehrwald and Mayrhofen in February, where we shot most of the park footage with Flo and Jochen. This was followed in the summer (when we had finished our A-level exams) by a stay in Hintertux. Here we had to wait a week for a sunny day to shoot.

This left us with a bunch of fat park shots at the end of 2011 and we had to think about how we could still get powder shots before the premiere on January 31st. After all, we wanted a lot of variety in the movie and what would a ski segment be without powder? Once again, we put all our eggs in one basket and spent the first week of January 2012 with Jochen and Flo in Tyrol. And as Jochen says, we were in the right place at the right time. Every day...for a whole week. It didn't stop snowing and if you watch the movie to the end you'll find the proof. Definitely one of the highlights of the more than one-year production time for [11].

The El Flamingo founders Johannes Müller, Philipp Becker and Johannes Fabry are behind the camera. The whole crew is highly motivated after the successful release of [11] and is already working on new projects for 2012.
