Our Italian low has made its way north as a Vb low and is currently causing chaos in southern Germany - and is also bringing snow to the northern side of the Alps.
In the south, the snowfall will slowly stop after snowfalls of up to 120 cm and will continue in the northern Alps until Friday. However, in all likelihood, only Switzerland will see more than 30 cm. In Austria, the precipitation band will arrive later and it will stay warm for longer.
The snow line has dropped all the way down with the wind shift: Northern thaw has set in. The amounts have already reached the oracle's very own warning threshold and 30 cm have already fallen in the north jams in central Switzerland (29.11.2012 - 7:00 am *yawn*), another 20-40 cm should certainly be added to this, so that Ullr has then also poured out more than half a meter in northern Switzerland.
West of the Bernese Oberland and east of the Arlberg, the amounts will be significantly lower. On the Arlberg itself (because I know it's not in northern Switzerland) it will probably only be about 30cm.
So if you want to go skiing at the weekend, you'll probably have to head south, because 50 cm without a base is less good than a meter with... Pow again at last, thanks Ullr!
But despite a low base and a day to let it sink in (as Friday will probably be sunny but nothing is open), pay attention to the avalanche danger, because it's well known that all fuses like to blow, especially the first time! And check your batteries in the Pieps!
As mentioned yesterday, the medium term looks very good for the north, because to paraphrase the poets of the Romantic era: "cold and damp, powder me me" - unknown, 21st century.
