PowderAlert 3 2020/21 | A little Christmas makeup in the north

At least for those who live in the mountains. There is a chance of real snow in the outlooks, where the base is, but more on that in the medium term.

Alert period and areas

The entire northern slope of the Alps from France to the Dachstein, whereby the core should be somewhere in Switzerland, but is not very firmly defined. Generally speaking, the alert is rather close east of the Arlberg.

The alert will last until the morning of December 26, but most of the west will be through by the evening before.

Wind

Not the upper hurricane, but there is wind involved. A fairly normal snowfall I would say. In general, there's hardly anything left on the main ridge and it's more in the north/west and the foothills of the Alps.

Where should I go?

During the snowfall? In the north? There's no snow below 2000m, is there? and above that there's little, sharky, poor visibility and a lousy foundation.

On the 26th it will clear up and you can carefully go looking for stones. Depending on how successful you are, you might be able to plan a tour afterwards.

Mid-term

Not unpleasant at all, because from the 28th there could be a südstau, which would then also allow skiing in areas with a base, if you can get there. *sigh* The Oracle is feeling sorry for itself and will go sledging in the Black Forest, because it doesn't think there will be more than sledging. And it's not yet desperate enough to slide down 20 cm of snow in the Black Forest with 100 other frustrated people. Ask me again in two or three days.

Powder to the locals! (Or to the people who dare to dance with the fine catalog, or simply have time to be in quarantine for a bit after the ski trip, or people with cross-border commuter ID, or to the people with Alpine citizenship or first-degree relatives there?! Be that as it may. *sigh*)
