When people talk about single trails in touristy bike regions in Austria, one name always comes up: the "Hacklbergtrail" in Saalbach Hinterglemm. Now the almost legendary trail has been expanded and, since its opening last weekend, has a total length of 10 km.
I somehow the Hacklbertrail has always had an atmosphere all of its own. Whether on a hardtail or downhiller, with just a helmet or in full downhill gear, almost every type of biker is happy to take the short climb from the short gondola to get onto the fast and flowing Hacklbergtrail. With the Bergstadltrail, the Hacklbertrail was given a challenging extension some time ago, which is also popular because of its great panorama and steep sections (some also claim because of the refreshment stop at the hut of the same name at the end of the trail). However, both variants had the disadvantage that the last few meters in altitude could no longer be ridden on single trails. With the extension, a gap has now been closed and the Hacklbergtrail can be ridden (almost) all the way down into the valley as a single trail. The new section starts at the Hacklberger Alm and extends to the Westgipfel middle station. Combined with the existing Hacklberg Trail and the Buchegg Trail (unfortunately only almost all the way down), the extension results in around ten kilometers of descent with 1,000 meters of elevation gain.
