Freeride World Tour

A pearl is a solid, often round foreign body made of mother-of-pearl that grows in certain pearl-forming mussels, or more rarely snails. Powder is... hm... Snow, of considerable depth and little disturbed by external influences. Powder, you want to dive into it, glide through it and emerge again, and so on and so forth, for all eternity, Kaiserschmarrn. And powder pearls? They are moving bodies in mountains of powder.

Winter is making a comeback and obviously it's not an April pain! Hopefully you'll all be enjoying your well-deserved powder soon, so here's the virtual nightcap for afterwards. Antti Autti brings us the finest arctic lines and there's also the Verbier Extreme to marvel at! The program is rounded off with a podcast and a suitable piece of music. Nauttikaa!

In the face of the impending spring, we're turning up the volume again in cinema format! A few French productions finally motivate us to explore the Pyrenees and study the language. Otherwise, we get to know Oscar Mandin, Wiley Miller and Hotdog Hans better and spend the rest of the night in Fieberbrunn. So pop some popcorn and open a beer! We wish you good entertainment!

The next generation presents the best entertainment, fresh enthusiasm, class and style at the Freeride Qualifier events. The events in Montafon and Nendaz make the big tour look like a kindergarten. The dilemma of subjectivity will always remain, but so will the fun and excitement of playing and dueling together.

A little insight into the ContestHappening of 2022 will also be provided this year on PowderGuide. The first part of the Freeride World Tour is already over. In a few weeks, you can look forward to an exciting finale including a new format.

Since the beginning of skiing and especially freeskiing, airtime has been essential. Speeds, slopes and soft snow simply demand that you give up contact with the snow. So either special kickers are built and jumped, or natural terrain features are used: cliff drop, gap, step-up, transfer - you name it! Of course, this is fun and also scores points in the freeride contests. We hope you enjoy today's airy selection!

You can look back on many things: Mountain tours, vacations and alpine clubs. Today, a few ski companies have imposed themselves on me with their films, and I'm devoting my attention to them. The Freeride World Tour has also started and TGR is working on an accident.

Start of the season! A warm welcome! Obviously: all the well-known characters and collectives are already busy publishing. Lots of recent footage of last winter's snow is ready and we almost feel late! But don't worry, we won't be tactically holding back here. We are delighted to announce our first winner of the "VdW Skier of the Year Award": Elisabeth Gerritzen! We will try to notify, congratulate and gift her immediately! The PG community chose her as the winner in a tough tournament mode in the final against "Our Roland". We also regret having lost sight of Antti Autti, but we will make up for it here. We close with Champion Aurelien and myself, Editorial Award Winner 2021.

At the first edition of the "Futuresymposium Wintersport" last week, new products from selected manufacturers were presented and trends and developments in the scene were highlighted in a variety of panel discussions and presentations. The event largely took place virtually and the PG team followed the more interesting contributions on screen.

Without anticipating the ContestHappening too much, the Verbier Xtreme must be briefly mentioned here. It is the annual highlight of our scene, and its date at the end of March also marks the peak of climatological snow depths. The search for powder is becoming increasingly difficult. But as you can see in the latest conditions reports, it's still well worth it!

Following on from the article about a new first ascent, today we are looking at films about the ski culture from Chamonix, which is sometimes fraught with high consequences, always enchanted with great panoramic aesthetics and sometimes refined with fun and joy.
