Kicking Horse

You spend the whole day looking forward to the live stream of the Freeride World Tour, perfectly timed for the working and skiing population of Central Europe, and then - not for the first time - the broadcast has to contend with severe problems.

The FJT starts the new season with up to 3000 young athletes who want to gain experience in contest freeriding. The young U-14 riders are now also taking part in some events. In addition, the participants will be divided into the U-16 and U-18 categories for the first time. New venues are on the agenda in Iceland and Japan and efforts are being made to make contest freeriding more popular in these locations too. The season finale returns to Verbier.

A week ago, two FWT stops took place in Kicking Horse (CA). At some qualifiers there were a few organizational uncertainties and disappointed potential participants over the weekend. Here is a short summary of the FWT and more details about the qualifiers in Hochfügen, at Hochfelln and the FWQ and FJT events in Alpbach.

The first stop of the FWT is coming up and will be livestreamed this afternoon (CET)! In addition, the first FWQ in German-speaking countries took place in Kappl (AT) this weekend!

Somehow it's strange: after years, there's enough snow here in the German-speaking Alpine region to be able to hold freeride contests properly, but there are no contests taking place at the moment. Based on experience from previous winters, the dates have probably been placed a little later in the season to be on the safer side.

ContestHappening is entering its second round and for the first time, it's back in the new guise of PowderGuide 3.0! It's about time: In a few days the first tour stop of the Freeride World Tour (FWT) will take place, and the first qualifier (FWQ) events have already been held last week. We also present the PowderGuide event calendar, which can be filled by users!

After our first stop at Kicking-Horse, we continued over the Rogers Pass to Revelstoke two days ago. The first surprise: halfway through the 120 kilometers, we crossed a time zone border, which extended our day by an hour.

A snowstorm greeted us when we arrived in Calgary on Saturday evening. Without any local knowledge, we were glad that a Banff Airport cab pulled out of the airport exit directly in front of us, so we simply followed it in good faith. And as we all know, trust is rewarded, we left the city limits with less than 10 meters of visibility and took Highway 1 west. Shortly before the Rocky Mountains, the snowstorm fortunately cleared, so that we reached the Kicking Horse River Lodge in the small town of Golden shortly before midnight, our accommodation for the next two days.
