Gear Review | Auftriib Saucer
11/20/2023 • Carla BrandtAnyone who has ever walked up behind someone who has used Auftriib can hardly do without these "gamechangers". What am I talking about? Polypropylene plates that you strap under your ski boots (in conjunction with crampons) to move forwards or upwards in couloirs or any kind of deep snow. As the name suggests, they give you buoyancy and make your bootpack a lot easier in deep snow. -

PowderPeople | Nikolai Schirmer: Ultimately, I justify the risk with my videos
03/21/2023 • Claus Lochbihler
His videos are as popular as ski trips to the Lyngen Alps: Nikolai Schirmer talks about extreme skiing in Norway on Instagram and YouTube. In this interview, the 32-year-old Norwegian talks about his attempt to reconcile climate protection and a career as a professional freerider, what makes freeriding in the far north so special and how he tries to minimize the risks of his profession. -

Videos of the Week #12 2021/22 | The science of snow and avalanches
02/18/2022 • Sebastian MüllerYou can describe snow and avalanches using physics. In order to understand a snowpack, thermodynamics is required above all, which describes the partial pressures and transformation processes of the crystals. The triggering of an avalanche requires a description of the mechanical properties of the snowpack and fluid dynamics are used for its propagation. However, science can sometimes be quite dry. That's why today we are presenting videos that make the subject matter more digestible. -

Scandinavian Happiness | #2 Videos of the Week 2021/22
12/03/2021 • Sebastian MüllerThe familiar Scandinavian protagonists, namely one each from Norway, Sweden and Finland, characterize this episode. We get to see the adventures of late spring 2021 here, matured and freshly baked, and the parallels are as obvious as they are interesting. They all had to deal with the same dangerous avalanche conditions, and they all solved them in their own way. We present: a big bubble of Scandinavian happiness! -

Ski resorts with summer operation
06/09/2019 • PowderGuide
With the current temperatures, a bit of cooling would be very welcome. On the one hand, you can cool off in a swimming lake or ice cream parlor, but on the other hand, snow is also cold and one or two lifts are still running or will be running again soon. If we have overlooked a ski area with summer operation, please add it in the comments. If you don't need lift assistance, there are of course many more opportunities for a few summer turns. -

Ski and Sail in the Sunnmore Alps
04/17/2018 • Johannes WolfThe cold wind and waves whip the cold sea water into our faces. Everything rocks wildly. Suddenly there's a bang! The fire extinguisher has flown out of its holder! This time one of the many waves has hit us directly. In the cabin, even seemingly fixed objects are now being flung from side to side. -

TouringTip | Rasmustinden
01/01/2018 • Christian SkalaIn contrast to many tours in the northern Lyngenfjord, the tour to Rasmustinden does not start directly by the sea but in the massif. On the ascent and descent, however, you are spoiled with a wonderful panoramic view of beautifully shaped mountains and at the summit you can finally enjoy the fjord view typical of Lyngen. -

TouringTip | Jiekkevárri
12/10/2017 • Daniel SchweissIf Lyngen's geographical high point were in the Alps, the summit would certainly be notoriously overpopulated, but here in the far north of Norway you can be completely undisturbed even in perfect conditions in April. Although the ascent is long and involves a lot of climbing, it is generally not very difficult. The reward is Lyngen's longest descent in one go. -

The freedom of a road trip | Vesterålen and Lofoten
04/30/2017 • Johannes SchwaderlappWord of the mysticism of the Norwegian coast and the Lofoten Islands has already spread among Ullr's disciples from Central Europe. Two places of longing come together at the foot of the lynx - the sea and snow-covered mountains. In spring, you can stand on the summit about 200 km north of the Arctic Circle late in the evening and then ski down to the sea at sunset. But can you fulfill this dream as a student without risking financial ruin? -

Story | Kayaking through Helgeland
06/05/2016 • Rcci Helfricht
For those who enjoy untamed nature in the form of freeriding and ski tours in winter, kayaking is an obvious summer activity. After all, it's all about the water and there is a "free" version on white water, as well as the touring version on rivers, lakes or the sea. Our authors Ricci and Kay were out and about with a tent, kayak and fishing rod in Helgeland, Norway in the summer of 2015.
