A classic in the Pinzgau

The Pinzgau Glemmtal valley is mainly known among piste-sliders and party-goers, but is somewhat hidden away and offers a variety of touring options - mainly popular with locals. In the moderate ski terrain, tours are possible on the grassy slopes from the end of November until well into April.

Ascent

From the parking lot in Lengau, first take the cross-country ski trail towards Lindlingalm (do not turn left over the bridge) and after the first few meters of altitude, turn right, first along and soon uphill in the forest towards the southern slopes of the Staffkogel. Climb over the wide and clear meadow slopes (pay attention to the daytime warming in spring!) to below the rocks and cross below the rocks in the direction of the large ditch (west). Then - only in safe conditions - through steeper terrain between the rocks and along below the ridge towards the summit.

Descent

The extensive terrain offers many descent options. The most rewarding and least frequented is the variant that leads via a very short "intermediate ascent" (a few vertical meters with steps) to the striking hump in the middle of the basin. From there, continue downhill over the ridge. Keep to the right in the lower area of the trees (otherwise safe but annoying tinkering through trees and ditches), cross a path and continue to the right towards the valley floor (less frequented than on the left and often completely untracked). Push along the lower path to the Lindlingalm (refreshment stop also in winter). Then back to the car via the cross-country ski trail/ toboggan run. Watch out for oncoming traffic (horse-drawn sleighs, tobogganers, etc.)!

Alternative

In conditions that do not allow an ascent in steeper terrain through the rocks, the ascent west of the descent route described here via the flatter slopes is an option.
