The Stockhorn is quite easy to reach via a ridge. After a short ascent, the summit is quickly reached. Once at the top, the view of the glaciated landscape will amaze you. The entire Monte Rosa massif is within easy reach, but the view of the Matterhorn and Gorner glacier is also impressive. Depending on the conditions, you can ski down moderately steep or steeper terrain. Caution! The crevasses on the Trifji Glacier are a serious danger on this variant.
Ascent
With ascent aids in the Gantt area, you can easily reach the starting point at approx. 3,400 m. The trail runs along a ridge and is easy to follow if there is enough snow. If you feel like it, you can put on your skins, but if there is a track, you can also walk along the ridge. Snowboarders have an advantage here. Despite the noticeable altitude, the approx. 150 meters in altitude are conquered in a short time and the destination is reached. You should allow yourself a short break to enjoy the magnificent view before starting the 1,300 m descent.
Descent
The descent starts from the summit to the north, keeping skiers left of a clearly pronounced ridge. This takes you around the most crevassed area of the Triftij Glacier until you reach a plateau. From there, continue towards the moraine edge of the Findel Glacier. At a good point, you can climb up to the moraine crest and choose one of the countless downhill options. Once at the bottom of the valley, follow this to the valley station of the Ganttbahn.
