Andrea Mannberg is a behavioral economist at the University of Tromsø. At the virtual ISSW (VSSW), she gave a rather entertaining presentation on how "sunk cost fallacy" and "present bias" can be transferred to an avalanche context and why people sometimes simply ignore important information.

The LWD Tirol has also recently started vlogging and shows us a snow slab and the associated, very unsightly snowpack structure. The avalanche was triggered by ski tourers on the descent, no one was injured.

Zahan Billimoria is a legendary ski guide in the Tetons, where he works a lot with film crews and travels with pros in the most challenging terrain. Solving for Z is a thought-provoking short film about the risks you take when you live like the protagonist. It lacks a final conclusion, but perhaps "Calculus of Risk" is a differential equation without an analytical solution and that's the way it has to be.
