First impression
The first feel of the fabric when unpacking was pleasant. The workmanship is good and this impression is confirmed when you put it on and try it on for the first time. The design and fit are pleasing and the jacket can be worn as a mid-layer or outer jacket. The jacket in size M fits comfortably at 176 cm and 75 kg. It doesn't have a super sporty cut, but it's not bulky either - so you can easily wear one or two layers underneath - and it's neither too short nor too long - it just fits.
The material
PENGUIN uses Pinneco Mantle Super Stretch™ from the Chinese company Pinneco as an insulating layer. This material is made from 100% recycled polyester fibers and has been specially developed for active sports. The SuperStrech material has excellent durability values and is evenly stretchable in every direction without permanent deformation. This means that the material should always return to its original state under high loads. The jacket also has excellent thermal properties.
Practical use
Since the beginning of the year, the jacket has actually been in use every day - whether on tour, in the ski area or on the way to work.
The reason why I wanted an insulating fiber jacket was that until now I always had a down jacket with me on tours, which was slowly but surely showing signs of fatigue. And in this area of use, the jacket has so far shown no weaknesses. On the ascent, I stuff it into the integrated outer side pocket, which serves as a practical pack sack. It is therefore well compressed, can be easily stowed in the backpack and serves as an ideal source of warmth when resting on the summit and on the descent. It is also ideal for use as a pillow in huts or when camping. The wind protection is good and the heat output has been completely sufficient in all temperatures so far.
