The latest models from the DOWN lineup have a new look. The CD 110, in elegant gray, would go well with a little black dress at an after-work cocktail party, in theory. Not so in practice, but it looks great on pre-work tours. The CD110 is the successor to last year's Countdown 7 and it has evolved quite a bit: In addition to the new topsheet and a tail protector, which should solve the problem of the somewhat sensitive edge, the flex and camber profile have changed. The 110 has the flat but relatively long, typical down rocker at the tip and tail, but classic camber under the binding (attention, new!). There are vehement advocates of the full rocker, but I personally find that the camber significantly improves the handling characteristics in hard snow and is not an issue in soft snow.
Compared to the Throwdown 110, the Countdown has a less pronounced tail rocker and is slightly lighter (2 carbon layers instead of one). It is still perfectly suitable for jibbing, but also for touring, or of course for simply skiing around without hopping or climbing. The ski's strengths naturally lie in soft snow. You can get down hard artificial snow slopes, but it would be strange if a ski with a 110mm center width and fat rocker worked better there than a giant slalom ski. The rocker reliably eats its way through broken snow and light crusts are even fun. Conclusion
The CD 110 is a playful, versatile freestyle freerider suitable for touring. The CD 110 is not the ultimate big mountain weapon in the sense of "I ski very fast next to the lift" and also not a piste ski.
