Three years ago, ski enthusiasts from Switzerland and Afghanistan organized the first ski touring race in the Koh-e Baba Gerbirge northwest of Kabul. The challenge is to conquer 600-1200 meters of altitude up- and downhill. The race is growing steadily and in 2013 there were already 15 participants from Afghanistan, including 5 women, and 15 participants from Australia, England, France, Norway and the USA. This video gives a good impression of the Afghan Ski Challenge: In addition to the fun of the competition, the Afghan Ski Challenge also aims to promote skiing, tourism and economic development in the region. For example, the Aga Khan Foundation has already pledged to run a ski school for the next three years.
So that the project can be continued and the ski school can be expanded and new economically profitable projects can be launched for Bhamiyan, a charity event will take place on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 7:00 pm in Mrs. Gerold's garden in Kreis 5, Zurich. Admission: CHF 85 (proceeds go to the project) Find out more about the charity event and register here (please note, places are limited!)
