Freshfield Icefield: A Skier's Journey Ep3 from Jordan Manley Photography on Vimeo.
Kashmir, Canada, La Grave. A journey halfway around the world. Jordan Manley, up-and-coming star photographer and filmmaker, shows his impressions of a ski trip to three different continents in a three-part webisode. In a short interview, he gives PowderGuide an exclusive insight into his work.
Powderguide:Kashmir, La Grave, Canada? a true skiers journey around the world. What was your intention to see these places? Why did you choose these places?
Jordan Manley: I think a lot of skiers have a bit of a cosmopolitan identity, and we not only search for different terrain, but use skiing as an excuse to experience different cultures and landscapes. Kashmir was a place Chad Sayers really wanted to go and convinced me it was a place we should go - it was a chance to see both Kashmir and Delhi, India. La Grave has been a place we've visited a few times over the last two years and has become one of my favourite places to ski and hang out. The Canadian Rockies - despite being Canadian and a British Columbian, I've spent very little time exploring that range, and I hopped on the opportunity to go there with Sherpas Cinema during their production of their two year film project, All I Can.
Webisode 2: La Grave, France
PG: Breathtaking pictures, stories behind skiing, moving sounds to underline the scenery. What do you want to get across?
Jordan: I wanted to try and give context to the places that skiing happens, not focusing solely on the skiing. There are so many reasons we might visit a place to go skiing: be it the landscape and weather, the culture, the food, the new people you meet. I tried to present it in a way that gives the viewer time to think about what they are watching. With that, I hoped the episodes would appeal to a broad range of people. Even if the viewer wasn't a hardcore skier, I wanted to communicate an appreciation for the places we visited.
Webisode 3: Freshfield Icefield, Canada
PG: Your plans for this upcoming season, will the audience see one more epic "skiers journey?
Jordan: It looks hopeful. We're not yet 100% sure where we will end up yet, but we've had very positive feedback about the first round, so more than likely you'll see another 3 episodes next season. Thanks watching!
