Sliding snow and loose snow slides
The SLF and the Tyrolean LWD have issued a short-term warning of sliding snow activity and loose snow slides in the snow-rich areas on the northern slopes of the Alps. In the high mountains, dry slab avalanches are also an issue after snow and wind. The first major snowfall of the season mostly fell on bare ground. Only in very high, glaciated areas have a few centimetres of snow remained from smaller precipitation events in recent weeks.
The usual north-facing accumulation areas above around 1200-1400m received plenty of snow. The Seegrube is reporting around 40cm of fresh snow, measuring stations in the Außerfern and on the Arlberg are showing similar values. Less seems to have arrived in Switzerland, but the webcams there are also showing a pleasantly wintry picture.
