PowderAlert 11 2020/21 | After the Südstau is before the Südstau!

You can ski from the Simplon to Slovenia with a thick base and normal risks. And soon you'll be able to ski powder there again, at least in the west.

Well, in the middle of Germany too, but as we all know, there are no mountains there. After the dump, Ullr will probably send its Siberian breath to the Alps, but unfortunately there will hardly be any moisture, but more on that in the medium term.

Alert period and areas

The alert goes from Monte Rosa to Slovenia. The core is once again from Veneto to Slovenia and will once again bring our favorite station Livinal Lunc a thick portion of snow on the 4m, which are already at 1800m.

The alarm goes until Monday morning.

Wind

At first still a bit stormy in the south and foehn storm in the north, but with the onset of precipitation not so windy anymore, so that quite good snow can come out up to the top.

But it doesn't push far towards the main ridge. I would expect half of it here at most.

Where should I go?

If you have to travel in the same country, I would tend to travel towards the südstau rather than the main ridge and more to the west, because it snows deeper there. So Adamello rather than Sella Nevea and East Tyrol rather than Villach. Switzerland should be a good fit everywhere in the south.

From Monday it will clear up and you can go to the ski area further up and from Tuesday onwards, nothing stands in the way of cold touring days with good snow conditions.

Mid-term

The models are not yet in agreement, but the Alps will probably (according to the majority of the crystal balls) also be hit by the Siberian breeze, which is currently turning Hanover etc. into Shred City. Not that it will do the people there any good. It looks rather cold and dry here, but it's possible that something from the west in Switzerland will slide onto the arctic air in the middle/end of the week. But nothing is certain yet.
