Spotreport Bike - Bikepark Serfaus Fiss Ladis

The newcomer among the bike parks in Austria

The Serfaus, Fiss, Ladis bike park only opened in August 2013. But even in its first full season, the bike park is no longer an insider tip. Together with the guys from the WS crew, we went to see for ourselves and can tell you why.

Planning for the bike park in the winter sports region of Oberes Gericht, part of the Inn Valley in Tyrol, began around three years ago. Construction work began last May and continued until the opening in August. Since May of this year, the park has again been extended by a number of trails. A budget of 1.5 million euros was available for the construction of the park (incl. pump track, slopestyle, dirt park and kids area) including the sports store. The entire Donwhill tracks were located on an area of approx. 1.6 hectares directly to the left and right of the forest track. All in all, you get the feeling that the bike park only takes up a small amount of space in addition to the existing infrastructure from the winter and therefore relatively little nature has fallen victim to the project.

Trails

There are currently 3 downhill trails of easy (blue), 2 trails of medium (red) and 1 trail of high (black) difficulty in the park. A further medium and a difficult trail are planned. The current blue routes are good for beginners or for warming up. We had the most fun on the red trails during our stay. The wide trails, packed with plenty of tables, doubles, jibs and north shores, are well suited to slightly advanced riders who want to push their level a little or simply enjoy some flowy descents with plenty of airtime. However, some variants of the red routes also include drops and jumps that are challenging even for advanced riders. Things get more technical on the black route, which is currently available: the other routes seem like highways in comparison. On the narrow, steep single trails with lots of roots and steps, technique and feeling are required. The second black trail is already taking shape and promises to be a challenging bike park trail with lots of difficult obstacles.

In the immediate vicinity of the bike park is the Frommestrail. The classic single trail with 1000m can be reached via the Schönjochbahn. As this is not part of the bike park project, but is operated by Fisser Bergbahn GmbH, an additional fee of currently €10 for adults must be paid for the ascent.

Infrastructure

In addition to the usual infrastructure such as a washing area and bike store, there is also a kids' area available directly at the valley station of the gondola. During our visit, this was also used by many little bikers, for whom taster courses and the corresponding rental equipment are also offered. For the older kids, there is a pump track, a slopestyle park with dirt jumps and a training area with jump lines in three levels of difficulty, also in the immediate vicinity of the valley station.
And Serfaus, Fiss, Ladis would not be a tourist region in Tyrol if it didn't also provide food and drink. Right at the gondola entrance there is a small area to relax including a drinks machine and downstairs, right in front of the store, there is an umbrella bar where hot meals are also available.

Conclusion

The Serfaus, Fiss, Ladis bike park is an enrichment for the bike park scene in western Austria. The implementation shows that the expansion of the tourist offer does not always have to be synonymous with new lifts. Here, existing infrastructure has been used sensibly to create an additional offer in the region.

What we like

  • Flowy, well-maintained trails with plenty of airtime

  • Compact infrastructure - everything is located in the immediate vicinity of the Waldbahn

  • Kidspark - we are looking forward to more families in bike parks

What else we would like to see:

  • A classic downhill course in the style of the World Cup courses

  • Single trails included in the bike park ticket
