On Thursday, the focus of precipitation will shift to the east, while it will slowly become friendlier again in the far west (Maritime Alps). When, where and how much snow, as usual, can be read by our colleague Orakel!

The further development is interesting from a synoptic point of view, but not really from a snowfall perspective from Friday onwards. The trough will be cut off north of us by a strengthening Scandinavian high and the remnants of the trough will remain as a wafting low pressure structure over Central Europe, while high pressure spreads to the north - a high-over-low situation. This will produce relatively friendly, calm weather at the weekend, with Saturday looking very sunny from today's perspective and Sunday looking cloudier, especially in the east.

MeteoSwiss starts April with an innovative approach to the always confusing naming of high and low pressure areas and recalls in its March review the stormy first half of the month, characterized by westerly weather, which was followed by a very sunny second half. Switzerland was also significantly warmer than the long-term average. On the southern slopes of the Swiss Alps, there is less snow regionally than at any time since measurements began. It is possible that the current alarm will provide some relief here shortly before the end of winter - we are keeping our fingers crossed.

It should be noted that neither Austria nor Switzerland can keep up with Alaska in terms of record heat in March, where the WeatherBlog is still looking for snow.
