Once again a perfectly organized Freeride World Qualifier Event with top snow conditions at the Faces of La Maretze and Mont Gond! Nicolai Göz was in Valais for PowderGuide and gives us an insight into the top-class qualifier event!
Perfect conditions at the home peak for the first Austrian Freeride World Qualifier event in 2016! After numerous cancellations or postponements in this year's "Austrian Freeride Series" due to poor snow conditions or high avalanche danger, it was now time to start the freeride contest season in beautiful Austria under sunshine and powder snow! And the riders were really happy to find great conditions and were delighted with the perfectly organized contest.
Niko Göz was in Les Arcs for PowderGuide at the premiere of the 2 and 4* FWQ contests. He wrote his report in English so that his colleagues and fellow participants as well as the organizers could theoretically read along.
The final FWQ competition in Switzerland for this year took place on March 13-14th 2015 in the charming village of Nendaz, surrounded by the impressive mountains of the valais. Great atmosphere, really nice nature and mountains, really cool people around, nice snow conditions and mild, sunny weather made the "First Track Freeride" contest an excellent experience again ...
Amazing Snowfalls in the Piemonte in Italy, with about 1,5 -2 meters of "Freshies" within only 4 days (!) made the competition, just about 12 hrs after the last snowflakes came down, with stunning blue skys absolutely "perfecto"!!! The Artesina Freeride Festival 2015 went down on Sunday, February 8th and it was a blast for our rider-reporter Nico Göz. Nico decided to write the report in English so that the organizers and the other riders could understand a bit of it.
On the weekend of February 21-23, 2014, the 14th edition of the First Track Freeride Contest took place in the small ski resort of St. Luc / Chandolin in the beautiful Val d'Anniviers. The weather and snow conditions could hardly have been better: On Friday and on Sunday night, around 15 cm of very light fresh snow fell on a relatively solid and soft base. This meant that nothing stood in the way of the "first tracks" for the two runs on Saturday and Sunday!
At the ninth edition of the popular Morgins Freesession on February 15, 2014, the Swiss riders also received a ranking for the Swiss Freeride Championships for the first time. The snow quality was very reminiscent of off-piste riding in spring due to the air masses being far too warm for the time of year, which some riders clearly knew how to demonstrate... In perfect snow and freeride conditions in the Engadine, the 3* FWQ took place on February 7th in beautiful sunshine on Corvatsch. The 100 freeriders from 19 nations offered the spectators a spectacle in a class of its own: the winners of the World Tour Qualifier were Juan Bergada from Argentina in the ski category and Anna Khankevich from Russia in the women's category. In the men's snowboard category, the winner is Alexandre Alfano from France, who impressed the judges with his fluid run. Anna Orlova completed the Russian double victory in the women's snowboard category. PowderGuide rider reporter Nico Göz was on site and gives us his impressions...
At the third edition of Verbier Freeride Week, amateurs and well-known freeriders from all over the world were once again able to compete for one of the coveted starting places. In the three 2* FWQ contests that took place, you had the opportunity to qualify for the 3* final with a very good placing and thus collect some points in the FWQ ranking system right at the start of the season. For PowderGuide, Niko Göz once again reports on his experiences at the event this season.
