It's that time of year again: the mountains are covered in snow, you slowly need a sweater and jacket in the valley again, the season and group ski passes justify the latest price increases, the first turns on the glaciers, PowderGuide starts the season. We're not quite in regular operation yet, but are gliding step by step towards winter as usual.

After a turbulent 2020, the Alp-Con Cinema Tour is back on the road in Germany and Austria as usual, bringing spectacular films with it. As in previous years, the tour will show various stories from a wide range of sports. The tour is divided into three different film blocks so that personal passion is not neglected: BIKE, MOUNTAIN and SNOW.

Ski movie trailers as a mirror of society: last season, some lockdown ski home videos still focused on the new and unfamiliar situation and went "ski touring" in gardens and living rooms. This year, having arrived in a new normality, the cinematic focus is on nature experiences in the immediate vicinity with the closest crew.

It felt more wintry in August, but nonetheless: the season is in the starting blocks (and PowderGuide is also slowly waking up from its deep slumber). Have you been to one of the glaciers for an opening party or to see if the edges are still holding?

The second corona winter brought many uncertainties, especially in the early season: Will there even be a season? What about the lifts and the borders? Over time, the "new normality" has become part of everyday life and we have come to terms with the circumstances.

The editorial contributions have already slowly gone into summer hibernation over the last few weeks, and now the PG weather service is following suit. On May 20, we will switch off "the weather" for this season. Anyone who is still skiing can of course continue to post ConditionsReports! We are just as happy to receive alpine tour reports as we are summer snow sliding!

The annual PowderGuide final meeting took place last week, for the first time as a digital event. The initial skepticism about the virtual format was quickly dispelled, especially thanks to the lively participation of the participants. We were delighted to see so many familiar faces!

The tour planning module of the White Risk app offers flexible options for planning ski tour routes with the help of precise map material. Slope gradient layers and the automatic recognition of key points offer practical assistance here. Other information can also be displayed, such as wildlife protection zones.

At the company site of PowderGuide partner GORE-TEX southeast of Munich, the sports-loving Gore workforce has to realize that climate change does not stop at leisure activities: Climate change does not stop at leisure activities. Cross-country skiing right on the doorstep is almost no longer possible and the ski touring season in the nearby Bavarian Alps is getting shorter and shorter.

At the first edition of the "Futuresymposium Wintersport" last week, new products from selected manufacturers were presented and trends and developments in the scene were highlighted in a variety of panel discussions and presentations. The event largely took place virtually and the PG team followed the more interesting contributions on screen.

The PowderGuide ConditionsReport is an innovative tool that allows you to share updates on snow conditions, snow conditions and the avalanche situation in freeride and ski touring regions throughout the Alps with like-minded people.

After a wide-ranging discussion about the locking mechanism on some Pieps avalanche transceivers at the beginning of the season, an exchange program was initially introduced. Now users of the affected models are called upon to contact Pieps in order to receive an improved carrying system for their device.
