Snow condition
I can't remember the last time there was this much snow. The windthrows of recent years are completely buried under the snow, treeruns are also possible and descents that haven't been possible for years are no problem. The track work was very strenuous (600m / 2 hours) and tedious. We then broke off and in the evening I went on a short tour above 1200m where there was even more snow.
Snow quality
The starting point was at around 600m. The snow was already rather wet and heavy in the morning. It got better towards the top but was still the yellow of the egg. Unfortunately, nothing worked without a lot of momentum. Temperatures were -1° and it got much warmer as the day progressed. We didn't notice much of the storm on the forest and meadow tour, but according to one of the hut keepers, it was quite a storm at the summit.
Risks
LWS 4 in the course of the day due to warming certainly hit it well. You could feel a certain tension in the snow even in the dense forest. On the way home we also saw some small self-timers on the steep forest slopes. Above the tree line, it would be a suicide mission for the next few days. Added to this is the poor visibility, which doesn't make the situation any better.
Overall impression
You have to take advantage of the situation when there is so much snow available in the east.
Stay safe, the season is still long.
