Snow condition
Another significant improvement on yesterday. It snowed all night long. And even today there was only a short break in the snow in the late morning. On the meadows in the Veitschbach valley (at around 900 to 1000m) there is now 40-50 cm. Most of it is loose (but bound) fresh snow from the past few days. The snow level in the north-facing spots (e.g. Niederalpl, 1220m above sea level) is approaching the (almost) meter mark.
Snow quality
Relatively loose (the snow has fallen from time to time with less wind) and very nice to ski. Due to the smaller amount of fresh snow compared to the west (Vorarlberg, Tyrol), there is also no problem with getting stuck in flatter terrain.
Risks
LWD has already issued the 3 for the entire "north-western regions" of Styria - the altitude dependency (which still applied today) has been abandoned. In fact, there were also high drifts in areas far below the tree and forest line. This was particularly the case wherever the meadows bordered on the forest and corresponding air turbulence formed. Although the snow is loose, it is very compact.
Overall impression
Very nice to ride and in the immediate vicinity of the valley resorts! Sometimes even in good winters that's not possible. In the meantime, however, the snow cover in the alpine regions has also increased significantly and is approaching "normal" levels. The downer is of course the storm plus the horrible old snow conditions.
