Snow report Alpenostrand, 01/21/2018

Snow condition

Very good snow conditions and another 25 cm of fresh snow on top during the day. For the 5th star, however, the distance to the record amounts of several years ago is still too big. Nevertheless, everything can now be ridden in the forest, for example a dedicated stream bed (without touching stones or water!).

Snow quality

The fresh snow was already very fluffy at the beginning, but due to the sun yesterday, the fresh snow from yesterday morning (and the day before) was already a bit more settled. Therefore only 4 stars.

Originally, a foursome was planned for this afternoon. However, the first fresh snow fell (except in specific ridge areas) with almost no wind influence. Therefore, the front side of the Kleiner Wildkamm (without summit and without rear gullies) still seemed safe to us. Later in the afternoon, we could hear slight (quiet) booming noises in the lower part of the Sohlenkogel slope (approx. 1200-1300m). Additional cracking. In the late afternoon, the snowfall intensified again and there was also more wind.

Overall impression

A very special day today. Face shots non-stop. Every descent felt better than the last. The fifth star is still reserved for the absolutely exceptional days ...
