Snow report Alpenostrand, 01/22/2018

Snow condition

Very good snow from the crampons / parking lot. Nice deep snow even in the steep forest. Unfortunately, the slope from the Lachalpe down to the entrance to Lachalpgraben is quite blown away and a horror to ride (a bit of fresh snow on wood, water ice, grass, stones), therefore only 3 points.

Snow quality

At the top it tended to be 4 (fresh snow without wind), but at the bottom only 3 due to daytime warming (below 1000m the fresh snow was then soaked through) and again and again very nice, dense snowfall (without wind).

LWD issued a 4. This was not noticeable here at this decidedly bad weather spot (Blahstein is quite an alpine meadow tour with a bit of steeper forest on top). No signs etc. However, the blown-off slopes around the Lachalm indicate the drift snow problem.

Overall impression

I thought I'd get 4 stars on the ascent, but then I really wanted to continue to the Lachalpe ... Because of the conditions there, I could only manage 3, and because of the loss of time, I was also fully warmed up ... So it was already damp at the bottom. At least it's snowing heavily again in Neuberg at the moment (20h) and it's staying on the (salted) road!
