Snow report Alpenostrand, 01/23/2016
Fresh snow and sun on the eastern edge of the Alps (Niederalpl). Even if it's still not ideal, you simply have to make the most of this combination and have fun.

Still too little and you can tell, especially in the forest, that it has no foundation. Nevertheless, the snow from last weekend has already settled a little and yesterday about 10 cm was added. Due to the warming, the snow is now certainly settling considerably, but we can only hope that the warming (today above 1000m but no thaw!) won't be too pronounced.
Snow quality
Actually quite fluffy in the sheltered area. But on the open slopes in the alpine pastures there is a clear wind influence. Later in the forest it becomes increasingly blunt.
Risks
Not critical in forest areas or alpine pastures (below 1600m).
Overall impression
One becomes modest. The sun and fresh snow-covered trees have comforted us from the fact that there is still far too little snow (actually, the conditions here on the eastern edge of the Alps are similar to those at the beginning of December). But if this snow doesn't thaw completely, it will provide a good basis for the hopefully plentiful February snowfalls.
