The snow conditions are moderate. In contrast to about 3 weeks ago, freeriding is now possible on a few slopes (hence 2 stars instead of just one), you can sometimes get through to a hard, lower layer, contact with stones or roots can be avoided by clever track selection, but not completely ruled out.

Snow quality

Unfortunately, there is hardly anything really positive to write about here. The snow became increasingly wet and heavy as the day progressed due to the high temperatures. In the mornings, it was still possible to enjoy skiing in places, but later it became exhausting. In shady areas, previously thawed areas were frozen to ice.

Risks

The LLB had indicated avalanche warning level 1 to 2 (increasing in the course of the day), which I would rate as realistic. LWS 2 was probably already reached in the late morning.

Overall impression

2 von 5 Sterne

Compared to the rest of Lower Austria, the location on the Hochkar is good, you CAN at least freeride a little here. I therefore award 2 stars for the overall impression: there is not enough snow to make the most of all the freeriding opportunities in the area. The snow was already quite tracked.

In the main gully of the large cirque an avalanche blasting was carried out last week, in the gully there is now only a hard, icy snow "blanket", so skiing is not advisable.

We still had a great day and hope for a snow replenishment soon (please without wind).

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
