Dust on Crust in der Senderrinne (Farfel), Schneealm
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Below 1000m, I had to carry my skis several times in the dense forest. Above that it was mostly fine. It was sufficient for the descent in the gully. Unfortunately, parts of the forest road system below have now been cleared (recent forestry work) and are unskiable. Skiing is out of the question in forest areas below 1000m.
Snow quality
Dust on crust, whereby the dust is limited to 3-4 cm. Powdery in the shade, on the extremely sun-exposed side of the gully (I went down around 12:00) the fresh snow was already firned up despite the very cold. Still loose and powdery in the shade. Even these few centimetres meant that the concrete snow underneath had a better grip than without a layer of fresh snow.
Risks
I have noticed small wet snow slides on some sunny rocky slopes (in the Schönhaltereck area).
Overall impression
Morning outdoor workout before the HO video conference. With sunshine and a beautiful view to boot. The descent wasn't exactly the cream of the crop, but these are luxury problems. Still only two stars, you have to leave room for improvement.
