Solitary descent on the Schüttnerkogel (Rottenmanner Tauern)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Sufficient. Through the lower forest zone (start was at 1240m) forest roads and cart tracks help you across. In the Rottenmanner Tauern there is probably a little less snow than in the Donnersbacher Tauern. Nevertheless, at 1600m even a steep creek ravine and then steep forest up to the saving forest road (approx. 1500m) was still easy to ride - with appropriate caution.
Snow quality
Very varied and diverse. Firn, sulz, powder (north-facing), crushed snow.
Risks
Very relaxed. Officially, a 2 is now issued for all altitude ranges in the Niedere Tauern region. The course of the day and exposure to the sun must be taken into account. In the steep forest, we had to cross old avalanche cones from relevant steep trenches/avalanche tracks several times on the forest road on the descent.
Overall impression
A very varied day of skiing in fantastic weather and very few people. Our chosen route from the summit (through the north-facing Gamskar) was only skied by us today and no old tracks were visible, which was certainly one of the highlights of today's Sunday (and ultimately justifies the 3-star rating from my point of view).
