Pickelharte Sonnenaufgangsrunde am Schneeberg
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
There is already a lot of thaw in the valley. Ascent only possible via the ski slope or downhill run. There is still enough snow on the mountain for spring tours. The descent after the cirque is via a forest road, which should be enjoyed with caution. There are already a few stones and until the weekend you will certainly have to strap on your skis for a few meters.
Snow quality
Hard as a pickaxe from bottom to top and from top to bottom. Ascent with crampons on partly water ice. Without crampons, on the plateau and early in the morning on the piste, certainly a challenge for the inexperienced. On the descent, there's a free foot reflex massage because the wind and the sun have raged in the gullies and cirques and turned the slopes into an ice rink. As long as the wind is still as strong as it has been for the last few days, it doesn't look very good with firn because the sun doesn't have the strength yet.
Risks
The danger of falling is a clear issue. There is no warming at higher altitudes due to the strong wind and there is hardly any snow at lower altitudes. Crampons are currently mandatory if you want to climb a path, ridge or gully.
Overall impression
Sunrise was nice but that was it. Next time I'll stay in bed.
2 points for the weather.
