Merry Christmas - er, Easter! The onset of winter in spring in the Styrian Mürztal during an ascent of the Wildalpe.

Snow condition
There is about 15cm of fresh snow in the valley and 60cm of fresh snow on the mountain on a layer of old snow, quite enough to use the (splitboard) skis directly from the valley.
Snow quality
The fresh snow was already a little damp in the morning, but still fluffy. During the day, snowfall began and lasted for about 1.5 hours, with some real sleet falling in between. In the areas of the ascent that were sheltered from the wind, the snow fell with little wind influence, up on the Wildalpe plateau it was very windy. At the top, the snow was easy to ski, you couldn't get through to the old snow cover during the entire descent. The snow became heavier during the course of the day, the closer you got to the valley, the stickier it became.
Risks
The LLB issued level 3 for the region, I would agree with that. The fresh snow fell in many places under the influence of wind and the critical amount of fresh snow has also been reached; the situation is not expected to ease tomorrow.
Overall impression
The good snow conditions were a positive surprise, and the snow quality was also quite good for the time of year. The chance for some spring tours in firn and steep gullies seems more realistic again.
