Snow condition

Approx. 5 cm at 400 m, up to 20 cm from 800 m, in combination with plenty of snow on the trees, pure winter feeling, up to approx. 50 cm at altitudes in the Lower Styrian Alps according to various reports and measuring stations.

Snow quality

2 von 5 Sterne

Dry powder snow, but small cornice formations even in the dense forest (at about 860m) are indications of considerable wind activity in the last few days.

Risks

According to the Styrian LWD, there has already been relevant activity in the form of (smaller) drift snow slides, but also sliding snow mouths in the higher elevations of the eastern edge of the Alps (Veitsch, Rax).

Our destination (Schöpfl, 893m, the highest mountain in the Vienna Woods :wink is not really a ski tour destination. We were therefore on foot, simply to enjoy the winter feeling (with sunshine and great views) and the anticipation of skiing after a long summer/autumn. Ski tours are already being done on the eastern edge of the Alps in the usual suspicious places (Stuhleck, Untersberg, but also Hochkar).

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
