Exposition
Snow condition
Really very good for the beginning of December at this altitude. It hasn't been this good for a few years. Nevertheless, we can't give it four stars, as it was much better at around the same time in 2005/2006.
Snow quality
Still loose, albeit wind-borne snow (fresh snow from Wednesday to Thursday)
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Clear signs of wind even at high altitudes (farm meadows up to 1100m). Smaller cornices at the edge of the path, structures formed by the wind in the snow. Surface frost from the clear and cold night partially blown away by the wind (my track from the previous day was almost completely blown over again, partly due to the blown away surface frost). The avalanche warning level "Low" only applies to the area up to (well) below the tree line. Above that, "Considerable".
Overall impression
The eastern edge of the Alps is currently in the depths of winter. Even tours that end at low altitudes can be skied down to the valley (via forest roads or meadows if available). Overall, the conditions are very good and well above the average of recent years (at this time).
The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.
Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
