Snow report Alpenostrand, 12/31/2014
Splitboard tour on the Eibl near Türnitz, Lower Austria. A relatively unexciting introduction to winter on the eastern edge of the Eastern Alps.
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Approximately 10 to 15 cm without a base, which means that there is always ground contact on the descent (harmless on this tour, as the terrain used to be piste and almost only grass). The ascent track is well trodden and firm.
Snow quality
Due to the warming (from about -7 degrees to +1 degree since yesterday) the snow has settled, is moist and heavy.
Risks
LWS 1 according to LLB and confirmed by own assessment on site - low snow thickness, but no good connection to the ground. No avalanche danger on this tour today.
Overall impression
Quite nice as one of the first tours on the eastern edge of the Alps, but the snow conditions are still a bit poor. There's about 20 cm of snow missing for usable downhill fun without worrying about equipment.
