Snow condition
At the top of the Säntis, the snow depth is average, but it quickly decreases towards the bottom. The snow line on Thursday was around 1500m, above 2000m there was up to 20cm of fresh snow, but the hard base was almost always noticeable, so the turns were rather gentle. The descent towards Unterwasser was still possible with a few short and one longer carrying passage (first at 1350m) just before the Laui parking lot. But below 1500m it was very thin by now.
Snow quality
Almost everything was there, broken harsh snow, bearing harsh snow, capped powder, powder, firn, cream cheese. The best part was the 250 m from the Rotsteinpass to the east. Säntis towards Meglisalp was either sunny yesterday and/or the wind was blowing. Still quite relaxing to ride with a snowboard.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: low
Above: 1800 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Loose snow slides from steep walls. Drift snow only sporadically, the snowfall is also low
Overall impression
Very scenic tour with lots of descent and little ascent. According to others, the descent from support 2 was also good, less variable snow, more firn and slush. At least in the upper area it gets better with the snowfall.
