Ski tour in the Ammergau mountains in spring conditions (north, 1000-2100 m)

Snow condition
The amount of snow in the Ammergau mountains is below average for this time of year. It's been more than a week since the last snowfall and the warm weather is taking its toll on the snow. Despite this, it is still possible to ski down into the valley in some places and there has been very little stone contact. South-facing slopes are becoming more and more exposed.
Snow quality
Up to around 1500 m above sea level, the snow was slushy and skiing was only moderate fun. The warm temperatures had had an effect here. Above that, it wasn't so warm on the north side today. Skiing could be done very well on a load-bearing layer of harsh snow that had thawed a little. Due to the temperature differences of the last few days, a firn layer formed in places.
Risks
Neither the increase in danger due to warming nor the drifting snow problem were noticeable today.
Overall impression
Although the amount of snow is so small and we found spring conditions in January, we were still able to go on a nice tour and find some quite decent downhill conditions. It still looks quite good for the coming weekend.
