Snow report Ammer Mountains, 02/01/2015
Ski tour in the Ammergau mountains (900-1700m, exposure north/west) - one more powder hit please!

Snow condition
It snowed a surprising amount here overnight, with around 30 cm on the mountain. There is now a good meter at the top and half a meter at the bottom. The fresh snow has fallen on a good base, you can ski down to the valley without any problems (even in the forest). There's still a bit of ground contact now and again, but all in all it's really good - and it's getting better all the time!
Snow quality
You can tell that the fresh snow has partly fallen with the influence of the wind, so it's a bit compressed in some places, but still good to ski. In areas protected from the wind, the finest powder! As this also fell on soft and unfrozen snow, you can almost go snorkeling ;)
Risks
Not entirely without, the wind has transported a lot of snow and created a few drift snow packs that are quite susceptible to disruption. Further down in the forest, it's rather harmless.
Overall impression
Another great day with an unexpected amount of fresh snow! It was also great to ride, and definitely whets the appetite for more. It's nice that it's still winter in the Bavarian mountains!
