Snow condition
The snow situation in the Ammergau mountains is brilliant at the moment. In terms of snow conditions, everything can be done both in the valleys and in the forest and there is actually no need to fear stone contact. A lot of snow fell in the Ammergau mountains during the night from Saturday to Sunday. In the valleys it was about 20cm overnight and at 1700 m above sea level about 30-40cm. Today in the course of Sunday at least another 10cm was added. It didn't thaw much in the valley today either.
Snow quality
The snow quality was very good. Because of the relatively high temperatures yesterday and today in the valleys it was also around 0 degrees, the snow was relatively heavy. The higher we got, the better the snow quality became. I think 4 stars fits quite well.
Risks
The situation is relatively critical. The large amount of fresh snow (up to 50 cm) fell partly under the influence of strong winds. The new assessment by the avalanche warning service with the increase in the danger level to midday today probably shows this quite well. There were also a few slippery snow mouths to be seen.
Overall impression
It was an unexpectedly good day with lots of good snow. The amount of fresh snow was much greater than expected.
Have fun to everyone who has time to go out in the good weather on Monday and Tuesday.
