Snow condition
Go on for a while, there's nothing to complain about :-)
Snow quality
Wet up to 1300 meters, then only the surface was wet and from 1500 meters it was really nice to ski on creamy, settled powder snow. It was also quite easy to ski below, with a bit of momentum it felt like surfing :-)
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Avalanche-wise, we could probably have completed the tour, but we didn't really feel comfortable. We were a little unsure how to interpret the very settled, wet snow cover - it could probably be interpreted as stable. When a loose snow slide came down from a distant rocky slope, we decided to turn back, as the residual risk (especially such loose snow slides with possible rocks) in the intended gully was too great for today's conditions. In addition, visibility at the top was poor due to a cloud. We often sent down small amounts of Boller on the descent through a hilly mountain pine slope with an average gradient of 30 degrees between 1300 and 1500 meters.
Overall impression
Been out, made a few good turns and better safe than sorry. I'm finding it a bit difficult to estimate how it will develop over the next few days. Up to about 1500 meters, I'd expect a crust or hard snow on the north side from tomorrow. Above that it might still be good, but I'm having a hard time with that. Looking for firn will probably be more rewarding tomorrow
