Snow condition

For the beginning of April, the amount of snow in the Ammergau mountains is very low and a closed snow cover can be found on the north side from around 1600m. This means that many ski tours involve carrying skis for a long time or, in our case, cycling, as there is a lack of snow in the regions near the valley.

Snow quality

As the snow cover hardly freezes through and is otherwise very wet and unstable, the snow quality is rather poor. Today it also rained a little up to 2000m. The snow cover is very slushy but still quite skiable and you don't sink in too much. Of course, the conditions are better the earlier you are out and about.

Risks

The avalanche situation was precarious and it actually makes little sense to avoid steep terrain as the snow cover is so unstable.

Overall impression

Basically speaking, it makes little sense to go ski touring in the Ammergau mountains nowadays.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!

Thank you for your contribution to the PowderGuide project!
