Snow condition
Overall, the amount of snow in the Ammergau mountains is very low. Over the last 10 days, around 10 cm of fresh snow has fallen in the valley (850 m). A little more on the mountain. This first longer-lasting snow allowed me to make my first turns on skis at the weekend. However, caution was required here as the snow depths were simply very low. Personally, I was therefore only out and about on meadow surfaces and didn't venture into more alpine terrain. It looked to me like there was very little snow even at higher altitudes (around 1800 m). However, the rain that started today and the high temperatures will make the snow in the valleys disappear again.
Snow quality
On the ski tours, the snow quality was good and the snow was powdery. Today, the high temperatures were already noticeable in the morning and the powder turned into slushy snow.
Risks
The avalanche situation was less of a concern as the tour was limited to low/medium altitudes and the amount of snow was very low.
Overall impression
Surprisingly good, considering the time of year. A little tip from my parents: the piste at the Kolben chairlift, which is still closed, is good for ski tourers and still passable without any major risk of ski scrapes.
