Bluebird ohne Wind nach Schnee und Sturm in Andermatt
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
There is plenty of snow from the very top to the very bottom (except on blown-off crests and caps! Small and large giraffes go, even when pushed out. Only in the village you can't drive on roads covered in snow.
Snow quality
Windblown on tops. In the area facing away from the wind (i.e. mainly north to north-east to east) you'll find lots of powder turns in untracked snow that has fallen by Friday. Yesterday the Gemsstock was closed. That's why we're getting such good runs today!
Risks
Andermatt lies exactly between the lsf weather limit, i.e. between a 2er 3er. We don't see any spontaneous avalanche backpack drops today, so we quickly decide to ski steeper terrain. Nothing is sliding. No snow slabs. Accumulations of drift snow are easily visible.
Overall impression
We started the day with few expectations, as it had been blowing so hard here for the last few days that I couldn't even imagine how snow could have stuck up there. We were rewarded and rode in small Giraffe First Lines with so-called "racepow".
It got warm underneath and the snow was correspondingly sticky. Good crew, good beer, good day!
