Snow condition

3 von 5 Sterne

The north side and also the west and east are good. You can still reach the valley, but it is also rather high here. After Andermatt, you can just about ski down to the valley. On the south side, even here - in one of the snowier regions - it looks very poor. Below 2000-2500 m, almost all the snow is gone. With every kilometer to the south, the snow becomes more and with every kilometer to the north, the snow becomes less. The view of the beautiful Surselva is depressing in terms of snow.

Snow quality

3 von 5 Sterne

Just three stars. From beautiful firn and slush to rather rough old snow and slowing slush, everything was there. Now and again there was even a little "fresh" snow... All in all, the enormous drought of the last few weeks is clearly noticeable in both the quality and quantity of the snow...

Risks

We set off early and it was perfect. No fresh wet snow avalanches and we couldn't see any avalanche activity. Nevertheless, I would end all activities reasonably early. But even at around 12 noon, we didn't break through completely on the south-facing slope on the ascent to Piz Cavradi.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne

3 stars is a good rating. The quality of the snow could have been even better in terms of firn. In addition to the many old tracks on the Modeski tour, there were also various old jibs, wound tracks and other flow breakers. Nevertheless, a great tour in great weather in great terrain.
